Heart Health Formula Details

According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, one in 10 dogs has less than optimal cardiovascular health. Heart Health Formula combines the unique antioxidant and cardio-protective qualities of CoenzymeQ10 (CoQ10) with the amino acid taurine, whose support for healthy cardiac function in cats is well established. In addition, other ingredients in Heart Health Formula include L-carnitine, which has been shown to improve appetite and exercise tolerance in dogs; vitamin E, which provides essential antioxidant activity in all tissues including the heart; and magnesium and potassium, which are necessary for healthy cardiac contractility and for maintaining a healthy heart rhythm. Three botanical ingredients – Crataegus laevigata (hawthorn extract) and Terminalia arjuna (arjuna extract), which contribute to healthy heart muscle function, and Eleutherococcus senticosus (eleuthero root extract), an adaptogen that supports physical stamina – are also included in the Heart Health Formula formula.

Research on CoQ10 in animals demonstrates that it promotes the utilization of oxygen in the heart and helps maintain the health of the muscular tissue of the heart (the myocardium).

The amino acid L-carnitine promotes cellular energy production in the mitochondria and supports heart muscle metabolism.

Magnesium supports vascular smooth muscle tone. Unlike humans and dogs, cats are unable to synthesize the amino acid taurine, so it must be supplemented.
